Who are we?
Hiking4Jesus
is the
combined ministry of best friends, Christian singer/songwriter
Tom Wiesner and Christian speaker/author Preston Fields.
After years of ministry on their own, Tom and Preston
felt that God was calling them to share their faith and
God's love, together, through their friendship and talents.
With a unique blend of story and song, biblical reflection
and honest, straightforward talk, Hiking4Jesus
is able to powerfully engage High School and
College youth in an entertaining, fun and meaningful way. |
Christian Artist Tom Wiesner first
felt called to ministry after a particularly powerful
experience at World Youth Day in Toronto, Canada in 2002
and wasted no time officially launching his career in
2003 with the release of his first project "the likes
of you." In 2006, Wiesner released his second project
"come to the water." He is a frequent featured
independent artist on various Christian music and College
radio stations and is the co-founder of Hiking4Jesus.
In addition to his ministry, Wiesner is an ER nurse in
Knoxville, TN. Further information about Tom and his music
ministry can be found at www.tomwiesner.com |

So,
what’s with the name?
We love the mountains. Hiking is a great
escape for those of us who feel like we spend our lives wandering.
In the mountains the destinations are clear, the paths are often
times clearly marked, and there are even clear rules and warnings
along the way, like "don't feed the bears" and "watch
for falling rocks". Everything you need for the journey
is on your back and reality is simple.
Although you can hike alone, it’s always more enjoyable
and safer to go with a friend.
If you read the Book of Acts, it seems like the last time anyone
got a clear and unmistakable view of Christ it was on a mountain
at His ascension into heaven. On the top of the Mount of Olives
the Apostles saw Jesus for the last time on Earth. On that mountain
top the veil between heaven and earth was thinned and angels
spoke unambiguously. And what did the angels say? Well, as the
apostles strained their necks and narrowed their eyes to the
sky, the angels, standing next to them on earth, said, "Men
of Galilee, why do you stand their looking at the sky?"
Just like that their eyes were snapped back to the reality of
the world. No more parables or great sermons directly from God’s
own mouth. Now it was up to them, and us, to discern God's will.
At this point the Apostles walked off the mountain to Jerusalem,
and, sometimes, I think it has been downhill for the rest of
us ever since. However, God didn’t leave us alone; we
have faith in the Holy Spirit and in each other. So there we
find ourselves on the mountain top, wandering and searching,
looking for clarity, listening for angels, and hiking for Jesus.

CONGRATULATIONS
TO AMANDA FOR SELECTING OUR MINISTRY NAME! We still
don't know what you've won!
1. "Hiking for Jesus" is your ministry's
name. And here's why. . .you've already got it out
there--people are wearing HIKING FOR JESUS merchandise--but
there's more. The blog on Preston's myspace gives
the phrase new clarity. Together y'all wrote on the
flyer "finding Jesus among the clutter and the
chaos..." What do you do when you're hiking?!
You're connecting with beauty (which is God-created),
and escaping from the chaos of society. When I think
hiking, I think peace...but there's also hard work.
